Strength exercise
Push Press
How to do it
- Set a barbell in a front rack position, hands just outside shoulder width and elbows pointed slightly forward.
- Stand with feet hip width apart, brace the core, and keep the chest tall.
- Dip the knees and hips a few inches in a short, controlled quarter squat, keeping the torso upright.
- Drive explosively through the legs and extend the hips to launch the bar, then finish pressing overhead with the shoulders and triceps until the arms lock out.
- Exhale hard through the drive phase and inhale as the bar settles overhead.
- Keep the bar path close to the face and avoid leaning back excessively to complete the lockout.
