Strength exercise

Push Press

How to do it

  1. Set a barbell in a front rack position, hands just outside shoulder width and elbows pointed slightly forward.
  2. Stand with feet hip width apart, brace the core, and keep the chest tall.
  3. Dip the knees and hips a few inches in a short, controlled quarter squat, keeping the torso upright.
  4. Drive explosively through the legs and extend the hips to launch the bar, then finish pressing overhead with the shoulders and triceps until the arms lock out.
  5. Exhale hard through the drive phase and inhale as the bar settles overhead.
  6. Keep the bar path close to the face and avoid leaning back excessively to complete the lockout.
