Strength exercise
Barbell Shoulder Press
How to do it
- Stand with feet shoulder width apart and grip the barbell slightly wider than shoulder width at the front of the shoulders.
- Brace the core and glutes to keep the ribs stacked over the hips before pressing.
- Press the bar straight overhead, tucking the head slightly back to let the bar pass close to the face.
- Extend through the shoulders and triceps until the arms lock out directly above the head.
- Keep the torso rigid as the bar passes overhead rather than arching the lower back.
- Lower the bar back to the front of the shoulders under control for each repetition.
