Strength exercise

Dumbbell Push Press

How to do it

  1. Stand with feet shoulder width apart, holding a dumbbell in each hand racked at shoulder height with palms facing forward.
  2. Brace your core and dip your knees slightly, keeping your torso upright.
  3. Drive through your legs and extend your hips to generate momentum, then press the dumbbells overhead until your arms lock out, working the shoulders and triceps brachii.
  4. Lower the dumbbells back to shoulder height under control, resetting your knee dip for the next rep.
  5. Exhale as you drive and press, inhale as you lower the dumbbells back down.
  6. Time the leg drive with the press rather than pressing with the arms alone, which limits the load you can move.
