Strength exercise
Pin Press
How to do it
- Set the safety pins of a power rack to the desired sticking point height, just above the chest when lying flat.
- Lie on the bench under the bar and grip it slightly wider than shoulder width.
- Lift the bar off the pins to a full lockout, then lower it back down to rest completely on the pins.
- Pause fully on the pins to kill all momentum before pressing again.
- Drive the bar upward from a dead stop, pressing through the chest and triceps and exhaling as it leaves the pins.
- Reset the shoulder blades and brace before every rep; because there is no bounce off the chest to help, a common fault is rushing the press before full tension is set.
