Strength exercise

Floor Press

How to do it

  1. Lie flat on your back on the floor with your knees bent and feet flat, holding the weight at arm's length above your chest.
  2. Set your grip at a width that keeps your forearms vertical once your upper arms reach the floor.
  3. Lower the weight under control until your upper arms rest on the floor, then pause briefly at the bottom.
  4. Press the weight back up to full arm extension, driving through the chest and triceps brachii.
  5. Exhale on the press and inhale during the controlled descent.
  6. Keep the pause at the bottom still rather than bouncing the weight off the floor to start the next rep.
