Close Grip Bench Press

How to do it

  1. Lie on the flat bench and grip the barbell with hands just inside shoulder width, about 10 to 12 inches apart.
  2. Retract the shoulder blades into the bench and plant the feet flat on the floor.
  3. Lower the bar slowly to the lower chest, keeping the elbows tucked close to the torso to load the triceps.
  4. Pause briefly once the bar lightly touches the chest.
  5. Press the bar back up in a straight line, extending through the triceps and chest until the arms lock out.
  6. Keep the elbows from flaring past 45 degrees during the press.
