Strength exercise

Bent Over Row

How to do it

  1. Grip a barbell with an underhand, supinated grip just inside shoulder width and hinge forward from the hips to about 30 degrees from vertical.
  2. Keep the knees softly bent and the chest lifted, letting the bar hang at arm's length in front of the thighs.
  3. Brace the core, then pull the bar up toward the belly button, driving the elbows back close to the torso to let the biceps assist the pull.
  4. Squeeze the biceps and lower lats together at the top of the pull.
  5. Lower the bar back to a full arm hang over two counts, exhaling as it descends.
  6. Keep the torso angle fixed rather than standing up partway to help heave the bar.
