Strength exercise

Band Pull-up (Assisted)

How to do it

  1. Loop a resistance band around the pull-up bar and step one foot or knee into the bottom of the loop while hanging from the bar with an overhand grip slightly wider than shoulder width.
  2. Hang with arms fully extended and brace the core before starting the pull.
  3. Pull your chest toward the bar by driving the elbows down, feeling the band add the most support at the bottom of the range.
  4. Finish the pull with the biceps as your chin clears the bar, keeping the shoulders pulled down and back.
  5. Exhale on the way up, then inhale as you lower back to a full hang under control.
  6. Choose a thicker band for more assistance and a thinner one as pulling strength improves, keeping the rep tempo steady rather than bouncing out of the band.
