Strength exercise

Dumbbell Single Arm Press

How to do it

  1. Stand or sit with a dumbbell racked at one shoulder, palm facing forward, and your free hand resting on your hip or a support.
  2. Brace your core to resist leaning or twisting toward the working side.
  3. Press the dumbbell straight overhead until your arm locks out, working the shoulders and triceps brachii.
  4. Lower the dumbbell back to shoulder height with control, keeping your torso upright throughout.
  5. Exhale on the press up and inhale on the way down.
  6. Avoid leaning away from the dumbbell to gain momentum, which turns the press into a side bend.
