Barbell Pendlay Row

How to do it

  1. Load a barbell and set it on the floor in front of your shins, feet hip width apart.
  2. Bend at the hips until your torso is roughly parallel to the floor and grip the bar just outside shoulder width.
  3. Brace your core and flatten your back before initiating each pull from a dead stop on the floor.
  4. Pull the bar explosively into your lower ribcage, driving your elbows back and squeezing the latissimus dorsi and biceps.
  5. Exhale as you row the bar up, then lower it back to the floor under control and reset your position for the next rep.
  6. Keep your torso angle fixed throughout; avoid letting your hips rise as you pull, which turns the row into a deadlift.
