Strength exercise
Barbell Pendlay Row
How to do it
- Load a barbell and set it on the floor in front of your shins, feet hip width apart.
- Bend at the hips until your torso is roughly parallel to the floor and grip the bar just outside shoulder width.
- Brace your core and flatten your back before initiating each pull from a dead stop on the floor.
- Pull the bar explosively into your lower ribcage, driving your elbows back and squeezing the latissimus dorsi and biceps.
- Exhale as you row the bar up, then lower it back to the floor under control and reset your position for the next rep.
- Keep your torso angle fixed throughout; avoid letting your hips rise as you pull, which turns the row into a deadlift.
