Strength exercise
Barbell Bent Over Row
How to do it
- Stand with feet hip width apart and grip a loaded barbell just outside shoulder width.
- Hinge forward from the hips to roughly a 45 degree torso angle, keeping a soft bend in the knees and a flat back.
- Brace the core and let the bar hang at arms length below the shoulders to start each rep.
- Pull the bar up toward the lower ribs, driving the elbows back and squeezing the lats and biceps at the top.
- Exhale as you row the bar up and inhale as you lower it back to arms length under control.
- Keep the torso angle fixed throughout the set; a common fault is standing the hips up to help heave the bar instead of rowing with the back.
