Strength exercise
Weighted Pull-up
How to do it
- Hang from a pull up bar with an overhand grip just outside shoulder width, attaching added weight via a belt or holding a dumbbell between the feet.
- Start from a full dead hang with the shoulders active and the core braced.
- Pull the body up by driving the elbows down and back, leading with the chest until the chin clears the bar, working the lats and biceps.
- Pause briefly at the top with the shoulder blades pulled down and together.
- Lower back down under control to a full hang, exhaling on the pull and inhaling on the descent.
- Keep the legs and torso still throughout and avoid kicking or swinging to move the added load upward.
