Strength exercise

Weighted Pull-up

How to do it

  1. Hang from a pull up bar with an overhand grip just outside shoulder width, attaching added weight via a belt or holding a dumbbell between the feet.
  2. Start from a full dead hang with the shoulders active and the core braced.
  3. Pull the body up by driving the elbows down and back, leading with the chest until the chin clears the bar, working the lats and biceps.
  4. Pause briefly at the top with the shoulder blades pulled down and together.
  5. Lower back down under control to a full hang, exhaling on the pull and inhaling on the descent.
  6. Keep the legs and torso still throughout and avoid kicking or swinging to move the added load upward.
