Strength exercise

Viking Press

How to do it

  1. Grip the parallel handles of the press implement at shoulder height, standing with feet shoulder width apart.
  2. Brace the core and lift the handles off the support to the starting position at the shoulders.
  3. Press the handles straight overhead until the arms are fully extended, driving through the shoulders and triceps.
  4. Lower the handles back to shoulder height under control, keeping the elbows tracking forward rather than flaring wide.
  5. Exhale on the press up and inhale on the way down, keeping the ribcage stacked over the hips.
  6. Keep the neutral handle grip steady throughout; a common fault is letting the handles drift apart or together instead of pressing on a consistent path.
