Strength exercise

Towel Row

How to do it

  1. Loop a thick towel over a sturdy overhead anchor point and grip one end in each hand.
  2. Walk the feet forward and lean back until the arms are extended and the body forms a straight line from head to heels.
  3. Pull the chest up toward the anchor point by driving the elbows back, working the lats and biceps while the thick fabric taxes the grip.
  4. Keep the core braced and the hips level throughout, since the shifting towel material makes the row less stable than a rigid handle.
  5. Squeeze the shoulder blades together at the top before lowering back to a full arm extension with control.
  6. Exhale on the pull and inhale on the way down, regripping the towel between reps if it begins to slip.
