Single Arm Dumbbell Press

How to do it

  1. Stand or sit with a dumbbell held at shoulder height in one hand, palm facing forward.
  2. Brace the core to keep the torso square and resist leaning to the loaded side.
  3. Press the dumbbell straight overhead to full extension, driving through the shoulder and triceps of the working arm.
  4. Lower the dumbbell back to shoulder height under control while the free hand stays relaxed at the side or on the hip.
  5. Exhale on the press and inhale on the descent, completing all reps on one side before switching arms.
  6. Keep the ribcage from flaring out to the opposite side; a common fault is letting the torso tilt away from the loaded arm.
