Strength exercise

Shoulder Press

How to do it

  1. Sit on an upright bench with feet flat on the floor, holding a dumbbell in each hand at shoulder height with palms facing forward.
  2. Brace the core and press the lower back flat against the bench pad before starting the press.
  3. Press both dumbbells straight overhead in a controlled path, driving through the shoulders and triceps.
  4. Bring the dumbbells close together near the top, finishing with the arms fully extended overhead.
  5. Lower the dumbbells back to shoulder height over two counts, inhaling on the way down.
  6. Keep the torso upright against the bench instead of leaning back to help the dumbbells overhead.
