Strength exercise
Seated Dumbbell Press
How to do it
- Sit on an upright bench with a dumbbell in each hand resting at shoulder height, palms facing forward.
- Plant the feet flat on the floor and press the shoulder blades into the backrest for a stable base.
- Press both dumbbells straight overhead until the arms are fully extended without locking the elbows harshly.
- Lower the dumbbells with control back to shoulder height, keeping the shoulders and triceps under tension.
- Exhale on the press up and inhale on the way down, keeping the pace even.
- Avoid arching the lower back to complete the lockout; a common fault is leaning back instead of finishing the press with the shoulders.
