Strength exercise

Scissor Kick

How to do it

  1. Lie flat on the back with the legs extended and the hands tucked under the hips or glutes for support.
  2. Lift both legs a few inches off the floor and press the lower back gently into the mat.
  3. Alternate scissoring the legs up and down, driving the movement from the hip flexors and core.
  4. Keep the core braced so the hips stay still and the lower back does not arch.
  5. Breathe in a steady rhythm rather than holding your breath during the kicking sequence.
  6. Keep the legs straight and the movement controlled rather than letting them drop quickly.
