Strength exercise

Ring Muscle-up (Kipping)

How to do it

  1. Hang from a pair of gymnastic rings and initiate a kip by driving the hips forward then back in a rhythmic swing.
  2. Time the pull with the forward swing, pulling the rings down hard while driving the elbows back to engage the latissimus dorsi.
  3. Use the momentum of the kip to help the chest rise past the rings, then turn the wrists over into a support position.
  4. Press through straight arms into a dip, extending the chest and triceps brachii to lock out at the top.
  5. Keep the rings pressed outward through the transition despite the added swing from the kip.
  6. Lower back down under control and reset the hips before starting the next kipping repetition.
