Strength exercise

Ring Fly

How to do it

  1. Set two gymnastic rings to about chest height and grasp one ring in each hand with your arms extended out to your sides at shoulder level.
  2. Lean forward into a staggered athletic stance so your body forms one straight line from head to heels with the rings under tension.
  3. Brace your core to keep your torso rigid, then sweep both rings together in a wide arc in front of your chest by adducting your arms with your pectorals.
  4. Squeeze your chest as the rings meet, feeling the pecs draw the arms together, before slowly letting them travel back out to the sides.
  5. Exhale as the rings come together and inhale on a slow, controlled return until you feel the stretch across your chest.
  6. Keep your hips in line with your shoulders rather than letting them sag, and drive the arc with the chest instead of shrugging through the shoulders.
