Flexibility exercise

Chest Stretch (Corner)

How to do it

  1. Stand facing into a corner of a room and place a forearm on each wall at shoulder height, elbows bent to about 90 degrees.
  2. Step one foot forward and lean the torso into the corner, keeping the spine tall.
  3. Press the chest gently forward past the line of the elbows until you feel a stretch across the chest and the front of the shoulders.
  4. Breathe steadily, exhaling as you ease a little further into the corner.
  5. Hold the position for 20 to 30 seconds before stepping back out.
  6. Keep the shoulder blades drawing down and back rather than shrugging up toward the ears, which is the most common fault.
