Reverse Grip Barbell Row

How to do it

  1. Stand with feet hip-width apart, gripping a loaded barbell with an underhand, shoulder-width grip.
  2. Hinge at the hips until the torso sits at roughly a 45 degree angle, knees softly bent, spine long.
  3. Row the bar up toward the lower abdomen, driving the elbows back and close to the body to recruit the lats, biceps, and forearm flexors.
  4. Keep the underhand grip firm and the wrists straight as the bar travels, since the reverse grip shifts extra load onto the forearms and biceps.
  5. Pause briefly at the top with the shoulder blades pulled together, then lower the bar under control to full arm extension.
  6. Exhale on the pull and inhale on the descent, keeping the torso angle fixed rather than standing up to heave the weight.
