Strength exercise
Pull-up (Underhand)
How to do it
- Grip the bar with an underhand, palms-facing-you grip about shoulder-width apart, and hang with arms fully extended.
- Brace the core and keep the shoulders pulled down before starting the pull.
- Pull your chest toward the bar, keeping the elbows close to the torso so the biceps share the work with the lats.
- Finish the pull as your chin clears the bar, squeezing the shoulder blades together at the top.
- Exhale on the pull up, then inhale as you lower back to a full hang with control.
- Keep the wrists straight and avoid curling them inward, which keeps tension on the biceps rather than the wrists.
