Flexibility exercise
Pigeon Pose
How to do it
- Start on all fours on a mat with the hands under the shoulders and knees under the hips.
- Slide one knee forward and angle the shin across the mat, then extend the opposite leg straight back with the top of the foot resting on the floor.
- Square the hips toward the front and walk the hands forward, lowering the chest over the bent leg while keeping the back leg long.
- Feel a stretch through the front of the hip and glute of the bent leg while letting the hip settle without shifting weight into the lower back, breathing slowly.
- Hold the position for 5 to 8 slow breaths, keeping the breathing even throughout.
- Walk the hands back to lift the torso, release the hips, and repeat on the opposite side.
