Strength exercise

Overhead Squat

How to do it

  1. Grip a barbell with a wide snatch-width grip and press it overhead so the arms are locked out directly above the ears.
  2. Set the feet shoulder width apart, brace the core hard, and keep the bar stacked over the mid-foot throughout.
  3. Descend by sitting the hips back and down while keeping the chest tall and the arms pressing the bar upward against gravity.
  4. Lower until the thighs are parallel to the floor, feeling the quadriceps and glutes control the depth.
  5. Drive through the feet to stand, keeping the bar path vertical and the wrists stacked over the elbows.
  6. Exhale near the top and avoid letting the bar drift forward, a common fault that pulls the torso out of position.
