Strength exercise

Overhead Press (Seated)

How to do it

  1. Sit on a bench with back support, holding the weight at shoulder height with your feet flat on the floor.
  2. Set your grip just outside shoulder width and keep your wrists stacked over your elbows.
  3. Press the weight straight overhead until your arms lock out, working the shoulders and triceps.
  4. Lower the weight back to shoulder height under control, keeping your torso against the bench support.
  5. Exhale as you press up and inhale as you lower back down.
  6. Keep your ribs down throughout the press rather than arching your back off the bench to finish the lockout.
