Strength exercise

Neck Rotation (Manual Resistance)

How to do it

  1. Sit or stand tall and place one palm against the jaw and cheek on one side of the face.
  2. Turn the head to look over the shoulder on that side while the hand resists the motion with steady pressure.
  3. Let the sternocleidomastoid on the opposite side drive the rotation through a comfortable range.
  4. Hold the end position for a steady two count, keeping the shoulders square and still.
  5. Release the pressure gradually and rotate the head back to face forward.
  6. Repeat for the prescribed reps, then switch hands and rotate toward the other side.
