Strength exercise

Neck Lateral Flexion (Manual Resistance)

How to do it

  1. Sit or stand tall and place one palm flat against the side of the head just above the ear.
  2. Push the head sideways into the hand while the hand presses back with matched, steady effort.
  3. Let the ear travel a short distance toward the shoulder on that side as the sternocleidomastoid works against the resistance.
  4. Hold the effort for a steady two count without letting the shoulder shrug up to help.
  5. Release gradually and guide the head back to a neutral, upright position.
  6. Repeat for the prescribed reps, then switch the hand to the opposite side and repeat.
