Strength exercise

Neck Harness Lateral Flexion

How to do it

  1. Fit a head harness with a weight plate hanging to one side and sit or stand with the loaded side away from the body.
  2. Tilt the head slightly toward the weight to take up the strap tension before starting the rep.
  3. Draw the head upright and away from the weight, leading with the ear toward the shoulder on the working side.
  4. Let the sternocleidomastoid on the working side do the work rather than shrugging the shoulder to help.
  5. Pause briefly at the top of the tilt before lowering the head back toward the weight under control.
  6. Complete all reps on one side, then turn the harness around to load and repeat on the other side.
