Strength exercise
Lateral Lunge
How to do it
- Stand tall with feet together and hands clasped at the chest or holding a weight for balance.
- Take a wide step directly to one side, keeping the toes pointing forward.
- Bend the stepping knee and push the hips back to sink into the lunge, keeping the opposite leg straight.
- Load the quadriceps of the bent leg while keeping the shin roughly vertical over the ankle.
- Push off the bent leg to drive back to the starting stance.
- Keep the chest up rather than letting the torso collapse forward over the front knee.
