Strength exercise

Handstand Push-up

How to do it

  1. Kick up into a handstand against a wall with your hands set just outside shoulder width and your fingers spread wide on the floor.
  2. Stack your wrists under your shoulders and squeeze your glutes so your body holds a straight, rigid line against the wall.
  3. Brace your core and bend your elbows to lower your head under control toward the floor, keeping your elbows tracking back rather than flaring out wide.
  4. Tap the floor lightly with your head, then press forcefully back to full lockout by driving through your deltoids and triceps.
  5. Inhale on the way down and exhale hard as you press up, keeping the descent slow and the press strong.
  6. Avoid arching your lower back by keeping your ribs pulled in, and do not let the press collapse into your chest instead of your shoulders.
