Strength exercise

Dumbbell Tate Press

How to do it

  1. Lie back on a flat bench holding a dumbbell in each hand extended above your chest, palms facing your feet.
  2. Flare your elbows out to the sides at roughly 90 degrees from your torso.
  3. Lower the dumbbells by bending your elbows outward until the heads of the dumbbells nearly touch your chest, isolating the triceps brachii.
  4. Rotate and press the dumbbells back up together to full extension, keeping the elbows flared throughout.
  5. Inhale as you lower and exhale as you press back up.
  6. Keep the descent slow, since dropping the dumbbells quickly toward the chest reduces control at the bottom of the movement.
