Strength exercise

Dumbbell Overhead Triceps Extension

How to do it

  1. Stand or sit with feet shoulder-width apart, holding one dumbbell with both hands and pressing it overhead to start.
  2. Keep the upper arms close to the ears as you bend the elbows to lower the dumbbell behind the head.
  3. Extend the elbows to press the dumbbell back overhead, working the triceps through the full range.
  4. Brace the core to keep the ribs down and avoid arching the lower back as the weight lowers.
  5. Inhale as the dumbbell lowers, exhale as you press it back up.
  6. Common fault: avoid letting the elbows flare wide or the head push forward to compensate.
