Strength exercise

Dumbbell Kickback (Bent Over)

How to do it

  1. Stand holding a dumbbell in each hand and hinge forward at the hips until the torso is close to parallel with the floor.
  2. Brace the core and set the shoulder blades back, keeping a soft bend in the knees and the glutes engaged to hold the hinge.
  3. Keep the upper arms pinned against your sides and extend the elbows back until the arms are straight, driving through the triceps.
  4. Pause briefly at full extension before bending the elbows to return the dumbbells to the starting position.
  5. Exhale as you extend the arms back and inhale as you bend the elbows to return.
  6. A common fault is losing the hip hinge and standing up partway through the set, keep the torso angle fixed throughout.
