Strength exercise

Dumbbell JM Press

How to do it

  1. Lie back on a flat bench holding a dumbbell in each hand with arms extended above your chest and palms facing each other.
  2. Position your elbows pointed forward and fixed in place rather than flaring them outward.
  3. Lower the dumbbells along a diagonal path toward your upper chest and chin, bending the elbows while keeping their position fixed.
  4. Press the dumbbells back along the same diagonal path to full extension, working the triceps brachii through the combined bending and pressing action.
  5. Inhale during the lowering phase and exhale as you press back to the top.
  6. Keep the movement slow and controlled, since a fast diagonal path at the bottom increases strain on the elbow joint.
