Strength exercise

Dumbbell Floor Press

How to do it

  1. Lie flat on your back on the floor with your knees bent, feet flat, and a dumbbell in each hand at chest height.
  2. Take a pronated grip with your upper arms resting on the floor and forearms angled slightly inward.
  3. Press the dumbbells straight up until your arms lock out, working the chest and triceps brachii through the shortened range of motion.
  4. Lower the dumbbells slowly until your upper arms and triceps touch the floor, then pause briefly before the next rep.
  5. Exhale as you press up and inhale during the controlled descent.
  6. Avoid bouncing your elbows off the floor, since that removes tension from the working muscles at the bottom.
