Strength exercise
Dumbbell Bench Press
How to do it
- Lie back on a flat bench with a dumbbell in each hand, feet flat on the floor and shoulder blades pulled together against the bench.
- Position the dumbbells at chest level with the elbows bent to about 45 degrees from the torso, palms facing the feet.
- Press both dumbbells up and slightly inward until the arms extend above the chest, driving through the chest and triceps.
- Inhale as the dumbbells descend and exhale while pressing them back to the top.
- Lower the dumbbells until the upper arms dip just below the level of the bench, feeling a stretch across the chest.
- Keep the wrists stacked directly over the elbows and avoid letting the dumbbells drift forward over the face.
