Strength exercise

Dip (Ring)

How to do it

  1. Grip a set of gymnastic rings and support the body with arms extended, rings turned out slightly and core braced.
  2. Lower the body by bending the elbows, allowing the rings to drift outward slightly as the chest leans forward.
  3. Descend until the upper arms are roughly parallel to the floor, feeling the stretch load through the chest.
  4. Press back up by extending the elbows and driving through the triceps brachii until the arms are straight again.
  5. Keep the rings steady and avoid letting them swing wildly between reps.
  6. Control the descent rather than dropping quickly, a common fault that shifts additional load onto the shoulders.
