Flexibility exercise
Chest Stretch (Doorway)
How to do it
- Stand in a doorway and raise one arm to shoulder height, placing the forearm flat against the door frame with the elbow bent to about 90 degrees.
- Step the same-side foot forward through the doorway, keeping the hips facing forward.
- Rotate the chest away from the fixed arm until you feel a stretch across the chest and front shoulder on that side.
- Breathe slowly, exhaling as the torso eases a little further through the doorway.
- Hold for 20 to 30 seconds, then switch arms.
- Keep the elbow at shoulder height rather than letting it drift up or down, which is the most common fault that changes where the stretch is felt.
