Strength exercise

Cable Triceps Pushdown (Straight Bar)

How to do it

  1. Stand facing a high pulley with a straight bar attached, gripping it with an overhand grip at shoulder-width and elbows pinned to your sides.
  2. Brace your core and keep a slight forward lean, holding the upper arms fixed against your torso.
  3. Press the bar straight down until your arms are fully extended, driving the contraction through the triceps brachii.
  4. Allow the bar to rise back to chest height under control, keeping the elbows from drifting outward.
  5. Exhale as you press down and inhale as the bar returns.
  6. Avoid using body weight or leaning to force the bar down; let the triceps generate the movement.
