Strength exercise

Cable Straight Arm Pulldown

How to do it

  1. Stand facing a high pulley with a straight bar or rope attached, feet hip-width apart and a slight forward lean at the hips.
  2. Grip the attachment with both hands slightly wider than shoulder-width and brace your core before starting the pull.
  3. Pull the bar down in an arc toward your thighs, driving through the latissimus dorsi while the biceps hold a fixed, slight bend in your elbows.
  4. Pause briefly as the bar reaches your thighs before letting it rise back to the start under control.
  5. Exhale as you pull down and inhale as the bar returns to the top.
  6. Avoid bending the elbows further to muscle the weight down; keep the slight bend fixed throughout the arc.
