Strength exercise

Bench Dip

How to do it

  1. Sit on the edge of a sturdy bench with hands gripping the edge just outside the hips, fingers pointing forward.
  2. Walk the feet forward and extend the legs so the hips clear the bench.
  3. Brace the core and keep the shoulders down away from the ears as the arms support the body weight.
  4. Bend the elbows to lower the hips straight down, feeling the load through the chest and triceps brachii until the upper arms are about parallel to the floor.
  5. Inhale during the descent and exhale while pressing back up through the triceps to straighten the arms.
  6. Avoid letting the shoulders roll forward and shrug up toward the ears at the bottom of the dip.
