Strength exercise

Barbell Reverse Wrist Curl

How to do it

  1. Sit on a bench or chair and rest your forearms along your thighs with your wrists hanging just past your knees, taking a shoulder-width overhand grip on a loaded barbell.
  2. Let the bar roll down toward your fingertips so your wrists drop into full flexion, keeping your palms facing the floor.
  3. Press your forearms firmly into your thighs and keep your elbows bent at a fixed angle to isolate the wrists.
  4. Extend your wrists upward as high as possible, driving your knuckles toward the ceiling to work the forearm extensors while your biceps hold the elbow bend steady.
  5. Exhale as you lift the bar and inhale as you lower it back down slowly over about three seconds.
  6. Keep the movement to the wrist joint only; do not let your forearms lift off your legs or your elbows swing to add momentum.
