Strength exercise
Dumbbell Wrist Extension
How to do it
- Sit on a bench and rest one forearm along your thigh with your palm facing down and your wrist just past your knee, holding a light dumbbell.
- Take an overhand grip on the handle and let the dumbbell hang so your knuckles point toward the floor.
- Keep the forearm pinned to your thigh and lift the back of your hand upward, driving the wrist into extension with the forearm extensors on top of your forearm.
- Squeeze at the top where the knuckles rise as high as they can go, then lower the dumbbell under control back toward your fingers.
- Exhale as you lift the dumbbell and inhale as you lower it slowly, keeping every rep smooth and deliberate.
- Avoid lifting the forearm off your thigh or swinging the weight up with momentum, since only the wrist should move.
