Strength exercise
Barbell Reverse Lunge
How to do it
- Position a loaded barbell across your upper back in a high bar position, gripping the bar wider than shoulder width.
- Stand tall with feet hip-width apart and brace your core before starting the movement.
- Step one foot backward into a lunge, lowering your rear knee toward the floor while keeping the front shin close to vertical.
- Press through the front heel to drive back up to the standing start position.
- Exhale as you stand up and inhale as you step back, completing all reps on one side before switching legs.
- A common fault is letting the front knee cave inward, so keep it tracking in line with the front foot throughout the rep.
