Strength exercise

Barbell Glute Bridge

How to do it

  1. Lie on the back on the floor with a loaded barbell rolled over the hips, knees bent and feet flat about hip-width apart.
  2. Grip the bar with both hands just outside the hips to keep it steady.
  3. Brace the core before initiating the lift so the ribs stay down.
  4. Drive through the heels and extend the hips upward, squeezing the gluteus maximus until the torso and thighs form a straight line from the shoulders to the knees.
  5. Exhale on the drive up and inhale as the hips lower back down with control.
  6. Avoid letting the bar roll off center or the knees cave inward during the drive.
