Strength exercise

Band Pull-Apart (Overhead)

How to do it

  1. Stand with feet hip-width apart and raise a resistance band overhead, arms straight and hands set wider than shoulder-width.
  2. Keep the arms level with the ears and the grip firm on both band ends.
  3. Brace the core and keep the ribs down so the lower back does not arch overhead.
  4. Pull the band apart by driving the hands out and slightly back, engaging the posterior deltoids and shoulders through the full overhead arc.
  5. Exhale during the pull apart and inhale as the hands return together slowly overhead.
  6. Avoid arching the lower back to compensate if the shoulders lack range to keep the arms overhead.
