Flexibility exercise

Arm Swings (Horizontal)

How to do it

  1. Stand tall with your feet about hip width apart and a soft bend in your knees.
  2. Extend both arms straight out to the sides at shoulder height with your palms facing forward.
  3. Brace your core lightly, then let your shoulders and chest pull both arms horizontally across the front of your body until they cross past each other.
  4. Sweep the arms back open wide to the sides, feeling the chest and shoulders work to reverse the motion at the end of each swing.
  5. Keep an even relaxed breathing rhythm and move at a smooth continuous pace for the set number of swings.
  6. Keep your torso upright and still, avoiding any rounding of the lower back as the arms cross over.
