Flexibility exercise
Thoracic Extension
How to do it
- Sit or kneel in front of a low chair, bench, or rolled towel and place the hands behind the head with elbows wide.
- Rest the mid back against the edge of the support just below the shoulder blades.
- Slowly arch the upper spine back and over the support, letting the head and elbows drop back while keeping the hips still.
- Feel a stretch and release across the front of the chest and through the mid back as the spine extends, breathing evenly through the movement.
- Extend back for 8 to 10 controlled repetitions, pausing briefly at the furthest comfortable point on the last few reps.
- Curl back up to a tall seated or kneeling position to finish the set.
