Block Pull Deadlift

How to do it

  1. Set a loaded barbell on top of lifting blocks or a low rack so it starts above knee height, and stand with feet hip width apart under the bar.
  2. Grip the bar just outside the shins with a double overhand or mixed grip at shoulder width.
  3. Brace the core hard and pull the chest up to set a flat back before lifting off the blocks.
  4. Drive through the heels and extend the hips and knees together, finishing with the back, hamstrings (biceps femoris), and quadriceps locking out over the shortened range.
  5. Inhale before the pull, exhale through the lockout, keeping the bar path vertical from the elevated start.
  6. Avoid jerking the bar off the blocks; keep tension in the arms and back before the pull begins.
